Week One  The Curtain Rises on Egypt: Gift of the Nile

Welcome to Egypt, as you've never studied it before. As you review each week-plan in this three-week mini unit, you'll learn more both about Tapestry, and about how Egyptians lived, worked, and played. Explore their culture, traditions, geographic context, and worldview. In Week One, the focus is on Egypt's domination of the Nile River, and how control of the Nile allowed it to become one of the most powerful nations of its age. Consider it as the home of a young prince named Moses, and understand the Exodus story in a new light as you go to Egypt with Tapestry of Grace

Just a quick word of instruction. We've split our typical week-plan up into PDF documents annotated with sticky notes and circles. Double click on the notes or circles in order and you'll take a guided tour of each component. You can also print any of these files at any time. Threads allow you to understand your teaching objectives for the week. Presented in bite-size paragraphs, a quick peek will give you the direction you need for each student in your home.

Reading Assignments are the backbone of Tapestry, directing your student to his or her weekly booklist. Divided by learning levels and separated into categories, Reading Assignment charts make customizing your student's weekly and daily reading assignments easy and enjoyable.

Overview is a two-page summary of the week's work (except the reading). This should be the first place your student opens up to find out what's planned for projects, maps, time line work, or famous people they'll be getting to know.

Writing tells your student exactly what they'll be putting on paper this week. Tapestry of Grace is designed so that the students write in the latter half of the week, but it sure helps to know what the topics are, so they can start thinking.

Student Activity pages are "home base" for your students. Following the color-coding to their learning level, these pages contain craft ideas, geography assignments, comprehension and analysis questions, and much more.

Teacher's Notes were written by moms for moms. We understand that you don't have time to read all that your students do. This is our summary of what your students are reading, as well as a peek ahead into next week. We basically just want to make your life as easily informed as possible.

Supplement means jackpot! Not every week has a supplement - they only show up when we've got so much good stuff we couldn't squeeze it all into the regular pages.

Map Aids help your whole family with the "where" for all the who, what, and how of history studies!  Tapestry assigns all the geography work you need, and Map Aids puts all the maps in one place. Print off as many custom-drawn, learning-level specific outline maps as you need each week. Then, they can check their answers with the teacher's maps provided in Map Aids!

Writing Aids help both student and teacher tackle writing as outlined in Tapestry of Grace. Packed with teaching tips, student notes, examples, and grading systems to make teaching easier, Writing Aids makes writing with Tapestry go from great to incredible!  Click here for an overview of all the genres that Writing Aids covers.

Lap Books are great for your hands-on learner! Flaps, tabs, mini-books and so much more make a regular set of folders and paper burst with historical life. Available as instructions (for the student who learns best by making) and templates or pre-assembled (for the student who learns best by exploring), lap books are a delightful addition to your student's education.

Evaluations make focusing your student's studies easier than ever. Evaluations can be used to measure what your children have learned, to direct their focus, to teach them test-taking skills, or even as supplementary discussion notes!

Pop Quiz is Tapestry's way of bringing working dads into the fun of multi-level learning. Each week, the Pop Quiz audio CD provides a brief summary of your students' weekly topic, and provides age-appropriate questions so that Dad can be a part of your family's educational conversation! It's not just for dads, though. Pop Quiz is also a great tool for moms on the go!
